Fundraiser : Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa : 2013 (Part 1)Have you ever wanted to be in one of these photos – you know, the one where someone hands you a check the size of a mini-billboard with your name on the, “Pay to the Order Of” line? We (HM and our sponsors, House of Sherell and Sherell Ra Sha Inc) took the first step this month.

You’ve heard it’s better to give than receive… well, we’re paying it forward. Sherell Ra Sha Inc Founder, CEO, Deborah Morris and recent HM MODEL Kona Lumeh participated in a Leadership course project at the Des Moines Area Community College, where they are both students in the Fashion Design & Marketing Management program.

Their project benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa was the kickoff effort for our December fundraising gala. If you missed the first part, you can still be participate in the second inning!

Join us for Fashion For a Cause Too on Saturday, December 21st at the West Des Moines Public Library @ 2 pm, where our special guest will be Miss Iowa Teen USA Amanda Armstrong. Makeover Marathon Winner, Ms. Katie Woodward will reveal her red-carpet look on the runway, sponsored by Anani Salon & Spa, the Official Makeover Headquarters of Haute Midwest Magazine. Official HM Designer, GSIA will auction runway looks at the event, with all proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa.

WEST DES MOINES November 27, 2013 – IOWA based Fashion publication, Haute Midwest (HM) Magazine (hautemidwest.com) is partnering with apparel / accessory designer, GSIA (Shenica Graham) of WEST DES MOINES, and Anani Salon & Spa of ANKENY (ananisalonandspa.com), to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa. This Midwest fashion week begins December 13, with a holiday makeover for an Iowa woman, and culminates in a fashion show with special guest, Miss Iowa Teen USA Amanda Armstrong.

Anani Salon & Spa, (Top 100 Salon in America / Elle Magazine (2010)), the Official Makeover Headquarters of Haute Midwest Magazine, will host a total transformation including massage, facial, haircut and color, makeup application, and shellac manicure for an Iowa woman. GSIA was most recently featured in the House of Sherell Fashion Show earlier this month at the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), and on the November cover of HM.

To round out this exciting week, the makeover winner will have a red carpet reveal by GSIA, Official Designer of Haute Midwest Magazine, when the designer previews her Spring 2014 line at the West Des Moines Public Library on Saturday, December 21st at 2:00 pm. As part of HM’s “Sisterhood of The Traveling Tiaras,” the reigning 2014 Miss Iowa Teen USA Amanda Armstrong will join the runway show following an interview for the documentary.

Select apparel and accessories will be auctioned with all proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters. Admission to the runway show is free and open to the public. Win a Free Holiday Makeover!

"Girl Standing Outside A Spa" by Stuart MilesHaute Midwest (HM) will partner with Iowa based salons, spas, and apparel / accessory merchants, to create a special holiday makeover for an Iowa woman.

How It Works: Contestants complete the Holiday Makeover Contest Registration Form and tell us why they should win the HM makeover. One Grand Prize winner will be chosen at random from all valid contest registrations received on or before the entry deadline at midnight on Saturday, December 7, 2013. The winner will receive a day of professional pampering and select new wardrobe / accessory pieces to help her create a show-stopping holiday look.

For Contestants: One Iowa woman who may or may not be a working mom, will receive makeover services on the Prize Collection / Media Coverage date(s). Services for the winning contest will include a massage, facial, haircut and color, makeup application, shellac manicure, and a personal style consultation. The contest winner may also be featured on an upcoming HM cover.

Prize Collection / Media Coverage Date(s): Salon and Spa services for the contest winner will be provided on Friday, December 13th at Anani Salon & Spa. HM will provide photography / film on location.
